One of the fears IT admins have when deploying some tool that needs to touch any BIOS parameteres is the occasional need of changing things manually and in each PC. HP Bios Configuration Utility is a simple command line tool that you can use to automate that kind of tasks.HP BiosConfigUtility is part of the free ” HP System Software Management” and comes inside the downloadable package (you will find it inside the folder once you install SSM).
To use it, you just send it a getconfig command to grab the current BIOS parameters, and then doing the opposite using setconfig you update the BIOS.
To do it, just open the command line as Administrator, and execute the following line to obtain the current BIOS state parameters. What this step does, is create a text file (config.txt) where everything is dumped from BIOS.
A message will tell us its running, and after a few seconds will confirm the command has run and finished OK
As a result, if we open the config.text file we should see all the BIOS options in the computer, and the ones that have an asterisk “*” are the ones enabled.
We can delete all the lines we are not going to touch in BIOS parameters, leave the ones we need, and make sure that the asterisk “*” is set at the one we need (S5 Wake on LAN enabled here).
We finally run again a command, but now is to SET the configuration in BIOS.BIOSConfigutility.exe/setconfig:config.txt
And that’s it: if you check your BIOS manually you should see the config as desired.
